2018 is almost here.
What are you going to do with it?
2018 is another year to GET SHIT DONE. It’s another 365 days or 8,760 hours to get ahead in life.
Have you made your 2018 plan? Let’s be honest New Years Resolutions are bullshit compared to a plan that produces results.
I’m currently working on my 2018 Quarterly Goals. Breaking down larger goals down into smaller increments helps you stay on track.
I have some major milestones to hit this year. This coming year, I’m not messing around and will be producing more software than ever, making more deals and producing more client work. My goals are great and greatness comes with a price.
Most won’t pay this price. I haven’t paid it enough. I’ve done well so far, but true greatness is going to take Next Level Sacrifice.
Here are a four ways you can begin your journey to make 2018 your best year ever.
#4 Make a “No” List
What are you going to say ‘no’ to in 2018?
Are you saying ‘yes’ to often? Are all these trivial things getting in the way of your business.
Saying ‘no’ gives you more time to say ‘yes’ to valuable things. Remember your time is valuable and a gift you shouldn’t just give out carelessly. So saying to ‘no’ to things saves you two things It saves your time and your money.
Here are some things that I’m going to say ‘no’ to in 2018.
- No unplanned vacations
- No clubs on weekdays
- No theater movies I really don’t want to see
- No client work that doesn’t fit my long term vision
- No to buying unnecessary accessories
#3 Don’t Make New Years Resolutions
Imagine this, Joe is drunk at his Xmas party when he proclaims his grand New Years resolution, Joe wants to build a new iOS app by the time summer rolls around. Guess what? It’s March and Joe hasn’t even wrote one line of code. Why did Joe wait so long to start tackling his New Years resolution? It’s because New Years resolutions are bullshit. You have to implement a plan that has daily actionable goals.
Example: Joe writes down his 2018 goal. Joe’s goal is to work Monday through Friday after is full time job on his app for an hour each day. So by the time March rolls around Joe has half his app built because plans with daily goals beat silly New Years resolutions every time.
Start off your mornings by looking at your goals and end your nights by checking off your goals. This makes sure you’re still on the right track.
#2 Recognize Your Time is Valuable
I’m sure most people would love to have the problem of having too many friends. However it is important to save time for yourself.
If you ever start to feel that your time is spread too thin by comforting others then maybe you are becoming too available to people. When a several friends just call you to dump their problems on you then it is time to reevaluate your worth. Increase your value by being selective with who you spend your time with.
Look if we all lived to be two hundred then it might make sense to give more people our time of day. But we aren’t getting any younger and we need to utilize the time we have so spend your time wisely, by being selective.
This falls in line with pruning your friends group.
This is a touchy subject for most people, but if you don’t prune your friend groups then you’ll find yourself spending time with people who don’t appreciate you.
#1 The Ingredient For Success
The number one ingredient all successful people have.
HUNGER
They are hungry to be more, get more, give more and to make their mark on the world.
I’ve always pondered why Elon Musk didn’t sit on his 150 million dollar PayPal payout and enjoy his twenties. The reason is because he has a massive insatiable hunger. A hunger to be more, get more and give more.
Successful people are never truly ‘fed’. They never stop acting hungry.
If you aren’t truly hungry for success then you won’t ever achieve your full potential.
If you’re struggling to figure out WHAT you should do in life, that’s okay. We all had trouble learning who we are at some point, but don’t just sit there. Take action. Only in the midst of taking action and doing things will you have revelations about who you are as a person. Only once you understand yourself can you begin to recognize opportunities.
Take action now. Get hungry.
