What is a WordPress Theme?

Themes come in a variety of different formats. You can download free themes from the WordPress Repository or purchase a premium theme from Theme developers, these themes also come with a variety of different licenses. Themes can be differentiates by how they customize your site, what colors they use, how they present content and what functionality they have.

Types of WordPress Themes

Find different free themes on the WordPress Repository. You can search for any theme you like and even use the feature filter option to find a theme with specific features you’re interested in. When you find a theme you like, click on it to see more information where you can either download or preview the theme. While finding themes on WordPress.org is great there is an even easier way to view themes right in your WordPress Dashboard. Just go to Appearance > Themes > Add New. Choose a theme you like and either preview or install it. Once you install a theme all you have to do to use it is click Activate.

Premium Themes

Premium Themes in WordPress means themes that you pay for. This doesn’t technically mean that these themes are better than a FREE theme although that is most likely the case. Our Marinara Blog theme is an example of a premium theme. One of the largest marketplaces for WordPress themes is themeforest.net.
